Vancouver BC Tourist Information and City Guide
The Okanagan Valley is one of Canada's major fruit growing regions. It is located about 5 hours east of Vancouver by car.
Situated between the Coast Mountain Range and Rocky Mountains, the Okanagan Valley is extremely dry. Some areas of the valley receive less than 10 inches of precipitation each year, which qualifies it as a desert.
The largest city in the Okanagan Valley is Kelowna. Kelowna is located on Lake Okanagan and is a popular tourist destination. Penticton, at the south end of the lake is also popular for vacationers.
There are plenty of hotels and motels throughout the Okanagan Valley, however, many of the better ones are booked solid during the months of July and August when Canadian families take vacation. Consequently, it is recommended to book accommodation before arriving.
When visiting the Okanagan Valley, many people enjoy touring a local winery. A popular activity for families is to float down the Penticton canal in an inner tube or other flotation device.
